Debate from the deep south

Since we launched our Rebrand Tasmania project a few weeks ago, the momentum has been steadily building.

After the Mercury, the most widely read newspaper in Tasmania picked up on the story, the site has experienced a huge surge in visitation and participation. As we expected the response has been a healthy mix of positivity, skepticism, personal expression and constructive contributions. It is safe to say we have been stunned by the level of response and are really keen to kep up this level of participation over the next few weeks. More than anything else we are really happy to have been able to tap into the passions and emotions of all those who have responded.

These are just a few snippets of the commentary the Mercury article received when published online. Read the article and commentary here.

I live in Melbourne and have never visited Tasmania, but I have a very positive impression and can’t wait to visit in the not too distant future. I prefer the middle option of the stylised v shaped state (with the lines) which to me represents a fresh, forward thinking, modernised State, blending in to the contemporary look and feel of the rest of the States. Going with an image of a Tasmanian Deveil seems to me too limited, stodgy, stuck in its past and trading only off Tassie’s considerable natural attractions. If Tasmania wants to join other progressive mainland States, and join the 21st century, it has to put forward an image that it perceives that’s its future direction.
